Meet the Artist
Hello!
Hi there, it's me, Michelle. I'm a surface pattern designer and illustrator.
I've been working in corporate America for almost 25 years. The last 18 years have been at the same company. In 2019, when I was an analyst, I deeply craved a creative outlet. It wasn't until 2024 that I found what I was looking for. I never thought of myself as an artist, creative, yes, but artist?
How I Started
I learned how to draw in Procreate on my iPad in 2024. What started as a way to unwind turned into something I couldn't put down. Somewhere along the way, I discovered surface pattern design, and it rewired how I saw the world.
Everywhere you look, there's a pattern. Once you learn that a real person designs the patterns on your favorite mug or the wallpaper in your favorite shop, you can't unsee it.
I got hooked on the idea of being that person. Since then, I've learned to build seamless, repeat patterns in Procreate, and I'm currently expanding that skill into Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Designer. 😅
How It's Going
My style is still evolving, which I consider a feature, not a flaw. Right now, I'm drawn to food and animals, gritty textures, and bright colors, though I adapt my palette and approach depending on what a project calls for. I love testing new brushes almost as much as I love finishing a piece.
Outside of my studio time, I'm a mom to two grown boys (a teen & young adult), one very clingy girl dog, and married to my high school sweetheart. I enjoy spending time with them, even if it's just sitting on the couch with the TV on and me drawing on my iPad.
